Valerie Moore


Valerie Moore was born and educated in England and has been working with consumers and the organisations that serve them for over 20 years.  She is committed to the cause of consumer representation and the role of the independent/not for profit sector.

CONSUMER AND MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE

She was a member of the senior management team of the National Consumer Council where she was involved in consumer policy development and organisational management.   Prior to that she gained senior management and chief executive experience in the voluntary sector.

Valerie was appointed a Non Executive Director of St. George’s NHS Healthcare Trust in 2004 for three years, contributing her experience in user/patient involvement and gaining experience of a large NHS hospital working towards Foundation Trust status.

EXPERIENCED LAY REPRESENTATIVE

Valerie has been appointed a Lay Member of the Discretionary Purchase Panel for the Cross London Rail Links Ltd; a 50/50 joint venture between the Dept of Transport and Transport for London to develop a major cross London rail link.

Valerie was a Lay Member of the Law Society’s complaints handling body from 1997 to 2002 and Lay Chairman of the Compliance & Supervision Committee for four years of that period. She continued her lay involvement as a member of the Law Society’s Adjudication Panel dealing with complaints against solicitors until September 2003.

She served as a Member of the Council of the Personal Investment Authority Ombudsman Bureau dealing with complaints handling policy and overseeing casework appeals. She was also a consultant to the Royal Brompton Hospital Paediatric Inquiry dealing with co-ordination and support for Family Hearings.

RECRUITING AND TRAINING USER REPRESENTATIVES

Valerie was Chairman/Facilitator of the British Telecom’s Consumer Liaison Panel in Swansea and a member of BT’s Panel Chairs’ Working Party. She was also recruitment consultant for BT’s Youth Consumer Liaison Panel in Brighton.

As a trainer for the National Consumer Council’s Stronger Voice consumer representation programme Valerie worked with Councils of Voluntary Service and other voluntary bodies around Greater London.

SELECTION, MENTORING AND EXECUTIVE COACHING

Valerie provides mentoring and executive coaching for magistrates and other professional executives and Chairs Selection panels for senior appointments within the health and legal services sectors.

ACTIVE IN VOLUNTARY SECTOR

She is a Lay Magistrate at South Western Adult Court in South West London and Camberwell Green Youth Court in South East London. She is also an active volunteer for Age Concern Wandsworth and a helper on the London Sailing Project’s trips for visually impaired people.

VALERIE AT M-A-C

Valerie has take the lead in projects to train and inspire consumer and user representatives.  Within the health field she worked with Public and Patient Involvement Forums and more recently she led the MAC development and support work with the Wandsworth Local Involvement Network (the successor to PPI Forums) from 2007 to 2009 when the LINk Executive agreed to appoint its own staff support.

Valerie has led the MAC team at Basildon and Thurrock Foundation Trust and was also involved in Membership development and training for the Homerton Foundation Trust and Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

POLICY GOVERNANCE ®

Having undertaken the first UK based Policy Governance Academy in 2005,  under the guidance of John and Miriam Carver, Valerie became an enthusiastic convert to Policy Governance ® and joined the support team for the second UK based Academy in 2007.  She is now a Board Member of the UK Policy Governance Association and a Board Member of  the Policy Governance Corporation.   Valerie is MAC’s lead on Policy Governance ® and believes that this systematic approach to ownership and and objectives will improve the governance of any organisation large or small, commercial or public sector.
